EMPLOYMENT
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS
The Kentucky legislature passed a law (HB3) that was approved by the 2006 general assembly that states that all “new hires” are subject to a criminal background check. This requirement applies to all employee classifications to include faculty, staff, students, graduate assistants, full time, part time and temporary employed on or after July 12, 2006. New, or initial, employment is defined as first time employment with EKU or returning employee whose break in service is greater than one year.
The University has engaged Hire Right, Inc. to conduct the required background investigations. Each employee has the following checks completed:
- County Criminal Felony and Misdemeanor with Social Security Trace (includes all counties of residence within seven years)
- Sexual Offender Search
- National Criminal Data Base
- Federal Crimes
- Education verification (for Faculty positions only)
